As a foster carer for asylum-seeking children, you will be supporting young people who have often travelled to the UK alone without an adult. Many come fleeing war, natural disaster, famine or persecution.
Most unaccompanied asylum-seeking children are teenagers who have experienced significant trauma. They will need support to adjust to life in the UK which might include:
- Learning English
- Accessing education
- Dealing with trauma
- Connecting with people from their home country
- Support through the asylum process
- Maintaining their cultural and religious identity
As a foster carer for an asylum-seeking child you will receive extra training and support.

“
