Short breaks and respite foster carers provide a home to children for a short period of time. This might be for a child with special needs who lives at home with their family as part of a regular support package, or it might be on a one-off or regular basis for a child in a long-term fostering family.

Short break and respite care provides families with much deserved downtime, as well as allowing children to enjoy new experiences and build trusting relationships with other adults and children.

I love that by fostering you have the ability to change children’s lives. I still remember my first placement, providing short term care to a child with a disability. I looked after a girl of 18 months for 3 weeks. Knowing that I was giving her family a break while they moved house made me feel happy that I had made the little girl’s transition to her new home much less stressful than it could have been.
